Our delightful last night’s accommodation at Machu Picchu
Fabulous views over the surrounding mountains from the lodgeThe entrance to Machu Picchu is literally metres from the Sanctuary LodgeWe were fortunate to have tickets for 2 days visiting the ancient Machu Picchu siteAfter a damp and overcast day yesterday we were pleased to visit the site today with clear blue skies and a pleasant temperatureThe sun was also enjoyed by the many visitors at the site today
The scenery overlooking the incredible site was breathtakingRoca Sagrada which mimics the shape of the mountains in the backgroundThe Temple of the Condor at the site was open for inspection todayThe terracing at the ancient site was unbelievableThe Inca trail winds through the steep hillside to the ridge on the nearby mountain rangeTo be able to visit Machu Picchu over the past couple of days has been an unforgettable experienceWe return to the Sanctuary Lodge for lunch which was included in the tariff, as was all meals and drinksThe traditional Peruvian Pisco Sour was the perfect refreshing drink to have after our second visit to the site
The only transport to and from Machu Picchu is by bus from the nearby town of Aguas Calientes AOnce back in Aguas Calientes we wait for our train which will take us towards our next destinationBeing only 9 km from Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes is the closest town to the ancient siteAfter a four hour train trip to Poroy station, we disembark and a driver meets us to take us to Cusco, where we have accommodation booked for three nightsBy the time we arrived at the Aranwa Boutique Hotel in Cusco, it was well after 9 pmThe accommodation booked for us at the hotel was very nice and spaciousThere was even a spa bath with a shower overhead!!!
