The views of the mountains from our table at breakfast … stunning
Delicious poached eggs for breakfast
The main entrance to the Inkaterra Hotel
Golf buggies are essential around the hotel for the transport of guests and luggage to the freestanding units situated around the hotel grounds
Our room is in the main building and has some comfortable seating outside
Just after 9 am our guide Yashira and driver Cristian come to collect us for a day tour of an old Inca village
Passing through a number of small villages on our way north west to the old Inca village in the Sacred Valley
After an hour of driving we arrive at Ollantaytambo, the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously used since the 13th century
Overlooking Ollantaytambo
At 2,800 m above sea level we certainly felt the 100 m climb to the high areas over the old town
Great scenery can be seen in all directions
It is quite unbelievable how numerous huge rocks were dragged and placed on the hill above the old Inca town
High on the opposite hill over the old town are the remains of storage buildings used to house dried foods
Once back down in the town we took our time to have a stroll around the narrow streets
Heading back to our hotel we pass the winding Urubamba River which eventually meets up with the Amazon River and flows to the Atlantic Ocean
Our hotel which is nestled into the lush green hillside overlooked by high mountains on almost all sides
Tables all set up for dinner tonight
We both enjoy a delightful spicy chicken dish for dinner ……
……. accompanied with wonderful vegetables
