The views of the mountains from our table at breakfast … stunningDelicious poached eggs for breakfastThe main entrance to the Inkaterra HotelGolf buggies are essential around the hotel for the transport of guests and luggage to the freestanding units situated around the hotel groundsOur room is in the main building and has some comfortable seating outsideJust after 9 am our guide Yashira and driver Cristian come to collect us for a day tour of an old Inca villagePassing through a number of small villages on our way north west to the old Inca village in the Sacred ValleyAfter an hour of driving we arrive at Ollantaytambo, the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously used since the 13th centuryOverlooking OllantaytamboAt 2,800 m above sea level we certainly felt the 100 m climb to the high areas over the old townGreat scenery can be seen in all directionsIt is quite unbelievable how numerous huge rocks were dragged and placed on the hill above the old Inca townHigh on the opposite hill over the old town are the remains of storage buildings used to house dried foods Once back down in the town we took our time to have a stroll around the narrow streetsHeading back to our hotel we pass the winding Urubamba River which eventually meets up with the Amazon River and flows to the Atlantic OceanOur hotel which is nestled into the lush green hillside overlooked by high mountains on almost all sidesTables all set up for dinner tonightWe both enjoy a delightful spicy chicken dish for dinner …………. accompanied with wonderful vegetables
