2017-09-20 Marina Port de Mallorca, Palma, Mallorca Island to Cala de Portinatx, Abiza Island

As we intend to cross to Ibiza Island today we make an early start at around 7am
Leaving the marina we again pass all the smart yachts and motor cruisers lined up along the piers
Today the weather forecast was ideal to make the crossing to Ibiza Island which is south west of Mallorca Island
In future visits we would again stay at Marina Port de Mallorca

Early morning light on the Catedral de Mallorca
Goodbye to the lovely city of Palma
The ferries already begin arriving
………..and the first flights also start arriving
As the sun rises, Bellver Castle glows on the hill overlooking the port
A very bright sunrise this morning!!!
From the port of Palma we travel in a south west direction down the gulf called Badia de Palma
A very popular large sheltered anchorage on the western side of the gulf is Portals Vells
On the south west point of the gulf is the lighthouse, Faro de Cala Figuera
Once around the lighthouse we continue south west looking towards the very narrow peninsular called Punta de El Toro
On Illa del Toro stands another lighthouse and from this point we start our crossing from Mallorca to Ibiza Island
Looking back in the distance to the island of Mallorca
One of the few boat we encountered during our crossing
Looking ahead to Ibiza in the far distance and a ferry crossing our bow
In very pleasant conditions we approach the northern coast of the island of Ibiza
The most northern tip of Ibiza Island stands the lighthouse, Faro des Moscarter
After 7 hours of travelling with reasonable conditions, we arrive at our destination
The small and quite isolated town of Portinatx is very popular with boats. It has a lovely anchorage and is also a good spot to be overnight before crossing to the other islands of the Balearics

We are once again pleased to see our Danish friends in their yacht moored in the bay
After our long trip we look forward to going for a swim in the crystal clear water
In the evening Aage and Jytte join us aboard to try some of Ric’s fabulous pizzas
