2017-09-09 Puerto de Ciutadella, Menorca Island

We take a walk along the wooden walkway which leads to the Club Nautic building and the visitors quay
The wind arrived on queue which was forecast to blow strongly for a couple of days
Just before the Club Nautic offices on entry to the port, are more berthing facilities for visitors
Walking out towards the entrance to the port we could see the heavy swell working its way into the harbour from the wind of the past days
Small to medium boats (under 12 m) are moored in the Club Nautic’s north west pontoon in Cala d’en Busquets
Looking towards the inner harbour and the white Club Nautic building
The visitor quay prior to the Club Nautic Office (when we arrived the young man who greeted us, offered us a berth here or by the restaurants, which he said would be more sheltered in the wind. We took his advice!!)
Above the port are some wonderful houses
Overlooking the long narrow port from the street above

The Tangaroa has a lovely position in the inner port

We continue towards the historic city square of Ciutadella, and head towards the Plaça d’es Born with it’s towering obelisk which commemorates the ‘Any de sa Desgaçia’ (year of the misfortune) when the Turks invaded the city in 1558

The  Plaça d’es Born is one of Spain’s most impressive squares which was gradually rebuilt in the Renaissance style from 1558
Restaurant Cas Consol is a popular restaurant in Ciutadella which overlooks the main port
Overlooking the bridge and the inner port
The grandest palace of Ciutadella is Palacio Torre Saura which is an early 19th century palace which dominates the main city square

We arrive at the Cathedral of Ciutadella
The vistor’s entrance to the Cathedral

The Cathedral museum
We were instructed to visit the Bishop’s Garden after our visit to the Cathedral

In September there are plenty of empty streets in the old town
The houses are nicely painted and the streets a kept very clean in this lovely old town

Tonight we dine ashore and have chosen a good rated restaurant very close to the port
We decide to go with the tasting menu at Mon restaurant
Wonderful warm freshly baked bread arrived promptly
It was not long before a delicious appetizer of chilled gazpacho with melon arrives at the table
We arrived early at 8.30 pm and at that time there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant, then gradually the tables started filling
Good wine suggested by the waiter
Our fabulous tasting menu begins……
