2016-08-14 Theoule to St Tropez, Cote d’Azur, France Morning in Theoule Shakra, a large private boat is moored nearby The conspicuous restored 14th century castle at Mandelieu La Napoule We depart from our lovely overnight mooring and head south west along the coast passing the red rocky point, Pte de L’Aiguile Just beyond Theoule are magnificent villas built discreetly into the wooded hillside slopes A rather unusual piece of architecture built into the hillside !! Continuing to the south we pass Ile d’Or, the small islet with it’s distinct red rocky appearance Nearby is the volcanic ancient rock called The Esterel which can be seen from the coast between the towns of Agay and Santa Lucia We pass St Raphael Vieux Port You have to keep a close watch all around because of so much water traffic near St Tropez The French boat owners are nearly as fast as the Italians!! One of the magnificent houses in Baie des Canebiers next to St Tropez which is believed to be the area where Briditte Bardot lives Lots of water traffic in the Golfe of St Tropez with the port of Ste Maxime in the background St Tropez comes into view St Tropez was once an unassuming fishing village however after the 2nd WW artists and the French New Wave in cinema started coming here which in turn made it an internationally famous seaside resort Today St Tropez still retains it’s Provincial charm however during the summer months it becomes a mecca for super yachts and and the jet set and also for visitors such as us and many others! The narrow entrance to Vieux Port St Tropez We drop our anchor beside a nice quiet beach in the southern part of Golfe de St Tropez A motorized wave board rider zips around the moored boats A very large and sleek yacht arrives to take a berth in the famous port Looking back to the port with the breakwater and pier for access to the water sports in the foreground Beside the port, the beach is crowded with holidaymakers and visitors staying in the nearby hotels Martha Ann arrives and reverses into a position along the outer wall at the entrance to the port There was a long queue of expensive motor yachts waiting to be berthed in St Tropez this evening Fishing while paddle boarding!! No doubt a guy who is good at multitasking!! Once the sun lounges were stacked aside, the tables of the nearby restaurant spilled out on to the beach for diners enjoy the water view Sunset in Golfe de St Tropez Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
