2016-06-23 Carla di Giunco, Ile Lavezzi to Porto Pollo, Corsica
We make an early start from Lavezzi Islands this morning to start our journey up the west coast of CorsicaWe pass Capo Pertusato the southern tip of the islandGoodbye to beautiful BonifacioShortly after we pass Cap de FenoWe have very still and calm conditions for traveling this morningWe approach Anse de RoccapinaThis really beautiful small bay is ideal for us to stop and have a swim, relax and have some lunchAfter a few hours we carefully leave the bay as there are numerous underwater rocks near the western entrance The amazing long popular beach at Golfo di Roccapina just around the pointOff Golfo di Roccapina is the tiny anchorage called Roccapina Cove which is only for very small yachts and it is said you require nerves of steel to enter… not for us!!Scogliu Longu is an anchorage behind Pointe de SenetosaThe scenery along this coast is absolutely spectacularWe arrive in the small town of Porto Pollo which is the closest port to the ancient site of FilitosaWith the aid of port staff we are securely tied to one of the town’s mooringsAfter we were asured that Filitosa was open until sunset, we organised a taxi driver to drop us off and collect us later from the ancient siteNear the entrance of Filitosa is a fine example of a Corsican statue -menhirThe Central MonumentIn the Central Monument 6 important statue menhirs have been found and are dispayed there
Ric in the western monument which was a complex with small corridors
Resting time for Ric From the hill, where most of the ancient Filitosa site is situated, one can see a row of statues under a very old olive tree
The ancient olive tree is around 1000 years old
We manage to find the dinosaur rock at the old siteWe continue up the hill to the quarry and look down on the ancient siteAfter over an hour in the heat of the late afternoon exploring the small ancient site it was time to have some refreshments and return to Porto PolloBack to the Tangaroa on the mooring in Porto Pollo BayTime for a drink, cheese and biscuits and of course Michele’s fabulous French fig pasteTonight we enjoy a dinner of grilled chicken with a vegetable ratatouille
