2016-06-20 Carla Nord, Isola Budelli, Maddalena Islands, Sardinia to Bonifacia, Corsica, France
This morning we leave Deadman’s passage and continue west to go to Bonifacio to pick up our Australian friend who is coming to join us on the TangaroaThere is a huge swell coming from the west as we make our way to BonifacioWe pass the beautiful Ile Lavezzi with the conspicuous monument to the lost sailors in a shipwreck in 1850’sPassing Cap Pertusato, the southern tip of CorsicaA passing yacht almost buried in the big swellOnce again we pass the magnificent old houses balancing on the limestone cliffs of Bonifacio
We enter Bonifacio through the narrow entrance to the amazing portWe arrive at lunchtime which is a busy time with several other boats arriving and departing at the same timeOnce again we were fortunate enough to get a fabulous berth with a great view of the fort high above the harbourOur guest Michele arrives and by coincidence a couple of her friends, Mel and Nick from Geneva are in town for the day, who come and join us for a drinkTangaroa back in Bonifacio for the 5th timeWe set off for a walk up to the large fort above the beautiful portMichele enjoys the amazing views east along the coastAs we walk up to the fort, we spot the Tangaroa nicely positioned for a photo between the buildingsAn amazing view from above of the famous portIt is great to have Michele finally come and visit us on the TangaroaRic is also happy to have another very experienced sailor aboardPerfect afternoon light on the limestone cliffs, looking east from BonifacioA delightful restaurant with boules on the sideThere are some nice quaint shops in the narrow streets of the old town high on the hillWe agree to accompany Michele down the 189 steps to the watersideOnce at the bottom we follow the carved path along the face of the cliffs to a grotto
The hard part is the climbing back up the 189 uneven and particularly high stepsRic returns to the boat with the groceries and Michele and I go for a longer walk out to the entrance to the portGreat view of the small circular bay near the entrance to BonifacioLooking down on the narrow entrance to the portA small bay off the northern shore of the harbour holds a number of yachts on anchor with the stern tied ashoreWe return to the Tangaroa which is nicely positioned at the end of the pier in the old portMichele’s first visit to BonifacioTonight we return to L’An Faim for a 3rd time which in our opinion is one of the best restaurants in BonifacioFor starters Michele chooses the tasty head of baked garlic and anchoviesRic and I share an exquisite grilled vegetable and fish entreeRic and Michele both order the delicious veal cheeks with black rice this eveningI order the fish which was absolutely fabulousWe share a couple of amazing desserts, we naturally choose the chocolateMichele orders the beautiful lemon dessertWhat a wonderful evening for our first night togetherWhen we got back to the boat the fort once again was lit up with changing colours every few minutes, which looked fantastic
