2016-06-20 Carla Nord, Isola Budelli, Maddalena Islands, Sardinia to Bonifacia, Corsica, France This morning we leave Deadman’s passage and continue west to go to Bonifacio to pick up our Australian friend who is coming to join us on the Tangaroa There is a huge swell coming from the west as we make our way to Bonifacio We pass the beautiful Ile Lavezzi with the conspicuous monument to the lost sailors in a shipwreck in 1850’s Passing Cap Pertusato, the southern tip of Corsica A passing yacht almost buried in the big swell Once again we pass the magnificent old houses balancing on the limestone cliffs of Bonifacio We enter Bonifacio through the narrow entrance to the amazing port We arrive at lunchtime which is a busy time with several other boats arriving and departing at the same time Once again we were fortunate enough to get a fabulous berth with a great view of the fort high above the harbour Our guest Michele arrives and by coincidence a couple of her friends, Mel and Nick from Geneva are in town for the day, who come and join us for a drink Tangaroa back in Bonifacio for the 5th time We set off for a walk up to the large fort above the beautiful port Michele enjoys the amazing views east along the coast As we walk up to the fort, we spot the Tangaroa nicely positioned for a photo between the buildings An amazing view from above of the famous port It is great to have Michele finally come and visit us on the Tangaroa Ric is also happy to have another very experienced sailor aboard Perfect afternoon light on the limestone cliffs, looking east from Bonifacio A delightful restaurant with boules on the side There are some nice quaint shops in the narrow streets of the old town high on the hill We agree to accompany Michele down the 189 steps to the waterside Once at the bottom we follow the carved path along the face of the cliffs to a grotto The hard part is the climbing back up the 189 uneven and particularly high steps Ric returns to the boat with the groceries and Michele and I go for a longer walk out to the entrance to the port Great view of the small circular bay near the entrance to Bonifacio Looking down on the narrow entrance to the port A small bay off the northern shore of the harbour holds a number of yachts on anchor with the stern tied ashore We return to the Tangaroa which is nicely positioned at the end of the pier in the old port Michele’s first visit to Bonifacio Tonight we return to L’An Faim for a 3rd time which in our opinion is one of the best restaurants in Bonifacio For starters Michele chooses the tasty head of baked garlic and anchovies Ric and I share an exquisite grilled vegetable and fish entree Ric and Michele both order the delicious veal cheeks with black rice this evening I order the fish which was absolutely fabulous We share a couple of amazing desserts, we naturally choose the chocolate Michele orders the beautiful lemon dessert What a wonderful evening for our first night together When we got back to the boat the fort once again was lit up with changing colours every few minutes, which looked fantastic Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
