2015-09-04 Porto Azzurro, Isola d’Elba, Italy Tangaroa in Porto Azzurro Today we decide to do some sightseeing ashore Late morning we take the dinghy ashore into the pretty town of Porto Azzurro The main square of Azzurro, on the water’s edge is surrounded by restaurants and shops Looking back at Porto Azzurro as we take a taxi to the town of Capoliveri which is nearby The old hilltop town of Capoliveri is quite charming with it’s pedestrian only streets and narrow lane ways Ristorantes are numerous however quieter now most of the Italian tourists have returned to work Quite a few tourists from Germany are on holidays with their children in Isola Elba at the moment An interesting pastime of selling the odd cigarette!! Colourful houses staggered on the hill capture a glimpse of the water in the distance A cute pooch!! The local church Many very narrow stairways lead to lower levels of the town My favourite green door Looking over to the west to Golfo Stella where we spent time a few days ago A couple of young local lads Ric spots a nice icecream shop We return to Porto Azzurro by the same taxi driver, as we were not patient enough to wait for the bus The fort, which today is used as a jail overlooks the town of Azzurro A couple of restaurants are built over the water in the main harbour of Porto Azzurro There even is a small beach complete with umbrellas and deck chairs The unpretentious town of Azzurro is quite charming with it’s cafes, ristorantes and shops, all at close walking distance After some retail therapy we return to our dinghy which we had left locked up by the harbour A group of local fishing gentleman spend the late afternoon chatting and fishing on the main town pier Time to head back to the boat A cold collation for dinner tonight Louis Vuitton seems to be following us around the Mediterranean The clouds are beginning to darken in the horizon At 8 pm the heavy thunder shower began which was accurately predicted by the weather forecasters to the minute!!
