2015-07-22 Nettuno Marina, Milazzo, Sicily to Scilla, Calabria Italy
We depart Netunno Marina in Milazzo and leave Sicily after nearly 6 weeks around the islandOn our next visit we hope to have time to visit the castle in MilazzoAround the industrial area of Milazzo there seems to be a constant smoke hazeContinuing east we pass a couple of small towns before reaching the Messina StraitApproaching Cape Peloro on the north west tip of Sicily at the western entrance to the Messina StraitA memorable place to have a quick lunch which Don had preparedWe cross the Messina Strait at it’s narrowest point which is less than 3 kms acrossThe nearest town in Calabria on the Italian shore is Scilla which is actually quite close to the famous straitApproaching Scilla from the eastern sideThe town looks very appealing with it’s pastel coloured housesDon and Susie by ScillaNearby the rows of umbrellas on the beach have made their statementWe decide to continue to the other side of the pointOut on the craggy bluff is an ancient fortOn the other side of the bluff is a charming fishing harbour with a seawall housing the local fishing fleet and visiting boats
We make a call to Giovanni so that we could pick up a mooring and anchor out – within minutes he arrived and secured us to a safe mooring in the picturesque bayThe beautiful port consists of many fisherman’s cottages and small fishing boats pulled up on shore by the back doorA few restaurants perfectly positioned over or by the water entice a few locals and especially the holidaymakersThis was the restaurant we ended up going to tonightAfter being collected by boat (part of Giovanni’s service) we set off to find a restaurant for dinnerWe had a few lovely choices of where to dine tonight
After checking out TripAdvisor, Ristorante Glauco ticked all the boxes!!Fortunately we were able to get a table without booking aheadThe restaurant had a fabulous view over the bay
