2015-07-19 Santa Marina, Salina Island to San Pietro, Panarea Island via Stomboli Island (Aeolian Islands) Sicily We pass the most amazing rock formations around these islands The town and villages are quite beautiful too We came here for a lovely dinner at “Il Gambero” last night!! We leave Sabrina Island and go on to Stromboli Island which has the most active volcano in the world The black ash from the volcano on Stomboli covers a great portion of this side of the island Smoke constantly pours out of the crater and fortunately while we were here there was not much more activity!! The vegetation on the mountainside in areas has totally disappeared A couple of other cruising yachts are also visiting this famous island The beaches on Stromboli all have coarse black sand In contrast the villages along the water’s edge are surrounded by lush green vegetation Susie busy taking plenty of photos on and off the boat To go and explore the town we left our dinghy high and dry on the black beach Tangaroa has quite a bit of company in the bay today It was a long walk in the searing heat from the beach up into the main town square Lapillogelato is the best icecream shop in the Aeolian islands We decide to leave Stromboli and spend the night on one of the other islands We arrive in Panarea Island and we pick up a mooring which included the services of having someone taking us ashore and then collecting us and taking us back to the boat after dinner Our friendly chauffeur We set off to explore the little village A little retail therapy is always good ! We come across Raya Boutique Hotel which has an open air rooftop restaurant in the hotel Although we did not get a table on the edge, the view was still amazing The food was good in Raya and these were some of the dishes we tried The hotel was very modern and contemporary in design Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
