22nd July 2013 Pithagorion We Calculated that it Would be More Comfortable (Because of the Wind) and Less Expensive to Circumnavigate Samos Island by Car than to take the Tangaroa The Tiny Car We Hired from Dimothenis at MotoEurope in Pithagorion Fishing Boats at Ireon I Love this Photo!!! The Small Harbour at Ireon The Local Veggie Man Does His Rounds in Ireon Delightful Small Villages Such as Pagondas Dot the Fertile Gullies of Samos The Scenery in Samos is Amazingly Beautiful with a High Mountain Range, Pine Forests, Fertile Plains and Quaint Hill Top Villages We Drove Through the Very Narrow Streets in Pagondas The Village Centre of the Town Looking South to Nisis Samioupoula, which is a Popular Small Island for Day Tipper Boats Taking Tourists to a Small Sheltered Bay on the Western Side for Lunch and Swimming Stopping by the Roadside , We Met a Delightful Mother and Daughter from Holland who Kindly Took Our Photo Looking West to the Marathakambos Gulf The Old Houses of the Small Towns have been Kept Neat and Tidy Most of the Small Villages have very Narrow Roads and we were Pleased we did not Hire a Bigger Car !! The Port of Marathakambos Most Villages are Built on the Higher Slopes of to Escape the Heat in Summer Some of these Vessels Require some Maintenance !! The Beaches Along the Southern Coast of Samos are Full of Holidaymakers Beaches Stretch for Several Kilometres Along the Coast past Marathakampos, Ormos and Votsalakia Marathakambos with the Wind Turbines on the Hills Behind the Town Driving North We Reach the Town of Karlovassi At Karlovassi we Could Not Resist Going to the Samos Winery to Sample some of the Local Wine – Samos is Particularly Famous for it’s Sweet Desesrt Wines High in the Hills on the North Coast of Samos are Several Quaint Villages – Manolates was Our Favourite Visitors Take Advantage of Escaping from the Heat by Indulging in Cool Drinks and Food in Quaint Restaurants in Manolates The Elderly have Learnt to Tolerate Visitors to their Small Villages Several Unique Holiday Apartments are Available for Rent in Manolates On the Heavily Wooded Hillsides, Small Clearings have been Carved out for the Houses On the Lower Fertile Plains, Available Land is Used for Agriculture Popular Northern Beach Town on Samos is Kokkari Charming Holiday Town of Kokkari Like Most Beaches in the Mediterranean, You have to get Used to Rocks Back to Pithagorion and Filling the Dinghy Full of Groceries !!
