Monday 14th May 2012 Nicolaos, Zakynthos to Argostoli, Kefallonia

Today was the last day our guests, Susie and Howard were to spend with us on the Tangaroa before continuing their holiday through France and Italy. Our first plan was to check out the ‘Blue Caves’ at the northern tip of the Zakynthos Island. Although overcast, which is never the best when viewing blue caves, we anchored and took our dinghy for a closer viewing.  The rugged scenery was great, however the caves did not show their obvious usual outstanding colours!! Our next stop was to find the infamous Shipwreck Bay, where there actually is a ship wreck on the beach. Continuing down the west coast of the island, finally we found this picturesque bay. As if ordered especially for us, the sun came out as we approached the area,  which enhanced one of the most spectacular views we have experienced so far on our trip. The water was the most intense aqua-blue in colour and the sand, so white with the contrast of the rusted large ship wreck perfectly placed in the centre of the beach. It obviously was a popular tourist spot, as there were quite a number of tourists on the beach with more arriving by big boat after we dropped anchor. We swam ashore, checked out the shipwreck and continued our journey back north to Kefallonia Island to have our last night with our friends in Argostoli, the capital. They had booked a flight to Paris from the main airport of the island which was only about 9kms from the town. The weather changed dramatically with rain and wind and on arrival we safely anchor reversed into the wharf. In the evening, after rugging up with jackets and taking umbrellas, we chose to dine  in a traditional Greek restaurant nearby.
