2019-06-12 The Swisse Hotel, Quito, Ecuador to Central Hotel Panama, Panama City, Panama Early morning clouds over the hills of Quito One of the nearby volcanoes can be seen clearly in the distance this morning Mid morning we make our way to the Mariscal Sucre Airport, one of the busiest airports in South America which is located about 18 km from Quito After our 2 hour flight to Panama City, we are collected by a driver to take us to our hotel which is located in the old part of Panama City called Casco Viejo We finally arrive at the Central Hotel which is located in a lovely square in the heart of the old town called Plaza de la Independencia Very comfortable roomsViews from our small balcony In the evening we leave the hotel in search of a nice restaurant …… crossing the old square we pass the beautiful Panama Cathedral We decide to try the popular Caliope Restaurant which is situated not too far from our hotel, on the first floor of an unassuming building. Entrance is by a door on the street with a restaurant attendant who guides you to the lift From the elevator to the restaurant you are pleasantly surprised be the chic modern decor, low lighting, open kitchen, well stocked bar and attentive and welcoming staff On the wine list there was a reasonably priced South Australian red wine…. a well known Penfolds Koonunga Hill …. we of course had to order a bottle We start with an amazing mushroom soup served in cups and accompanied by tasty eggplant and delicious bread The experts in the open kitchen busy creating their delicious cuisine A refreshing sorbet cleanses the palate between courses The truffle ravioli was delicate and very flavorsome The generous portion of perfectly cooked seabass was excellent An amazing dessert finishes our first wonderful dining experience in Panama City After a day of travelling and a great dinner nearby, we return to our accommodation at the Central Hotel Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
