2019-05-19 Ife Boutique Hotel, Lima, Peru This morning once again Jesus collects us from our hotel and he takes us into the centre of the city passing Lima’s famous football stadium We pass the elegant building housing the Museum of Art While arriving in the city centre to park the car we see a regional band preparing for a procession and local women arriving in traditional Peruvian dresses A large crowd of people are already assembled in the main town square The band begins the procession Many of the locals today were also dressed in traditional Peruvian clothing The rest of our Peruvian family meet us at the main city square The procession continues through the crowds lining the streets by the Cathedral There was plenty of music and dancing in the street It is wonderful to catch up with Gladys once again Gladys and her two grandsons, Johan and Andy Mohan with us in front of the main city square fountain The Cathedral with it’s twin towers dominates the Plaza mayor Crowds gather for the changing of the guard, in the background is the Lima Municipalidad (Town Hall) Wonderful Peruvian colours We leave the main square and head towards the old railway station The old railway station has now been transformed into a library The ceiling in the old railway station still looks amazing There are very few trains passing at this time however as we arrived one of the oldest trains passed through the station By the station there was a long wall of local art murals The boys!! The striking facade of San Francisco which comprises of a church, a convent, chapels and catacombs Two traditional dressed ladies with one of the highest points of Lima in the background Many Spanish style overhead wooden balconies can be found in Lima Live performances of musicians and singers can be seen in the Amphitheater in Parque de la Exposicion, home to free cultural events Icecream vendors are popular during the warmer weather We head back towards the main square to collect the car We pass the statue of General Jose de San Martin in the centre of Plaza San Martin After leaving the city square we drive to a popular seafood restaurant where the family had booked a Sunday lunch for us all The first dish we ordered was three different types of the popular Peruvian fish dish called Ceviche …. all were absolutely delicious Scallops baked in their shell came next The seafood with rice was absolutely delicious Lastly we enjoyed some deep fried seafood After lunch we visited the busy area where our daughter in law grew up There we met some of the very friendly locals It was wonderful meeting some of our extended family We spent the afternoon enjoying the local area Dancing in the park was very popular The train was fabulous for the the families with young children Campo de Marte is one of Lima’s biggest parks, a green area for the district of Jesus Maria and whole Lima. The large monument in the park commemorates the war between Peru and Ecuador In the evening we have dinner at Villa Chicken which apparently has the best roasted chicken in Lima We enjoy a wonderful family dinner on our last night in Lima There was no doubt that this was the tastiest and best roasted chicken we had tried!! Some delightful fresh salads were ordered to accompany the delicious chicken Three lovely sisters enjoying their Pisco Sours For dessert we try some Peruvian doughnuts with icecream Happy Birthday!!!!
