Friday 21st September 2012 Wall Bay to Yacht Classic Hotel, Fethiye
We made a slow departure from Wall Bay during the day and motored back to the east coast of the Fethiye Gulf to Fethiye. Ric had organised a meeting in Fethiye with Husseyin and Hassan, his Turkish business associates. They we driving from Bodrum in a day or so, to come and join us for dinner and business discussions. On arrival at the Yacht Classic Hotel (by the way, this is where Daniel Craig stayed when filming part of the latest Bond movie) we again got lucky and found a free berth on the restaurant quay. To our surprise beside us was another yacht proudly flying an Australian flag. We later were very pleased to meet a Perth couple who were also enjoying the European sailing experience. As always on arrival next to terra firma, Ric likes to unload his precious electric bikes. On this occasion I was quite happy to ride off into the wilderness with him! Knowing there is quite a bit of walking to get around Fethiye I was happy to go and explore further with Ric. The foreshore goes literally for many kilometres and riding is by far the most enjoyable way to view the area. The foreshore has wall to wall bars, restaurants and cafes which seem quite empty for this time of year. Perhaps later in the evening things pick up a little. We rode for many kms and came to a newly furbished open public area complete with statues, thousands of unusual animal topiary plants, monuments and play areas. Quite unique! Naturally on our way back we called into a few shops and checked out some of the local rugs of which we purchased a couple of tiny ones for the Tangaroa. For dinner this evening we were asked to join the table of our new Dutch friends from the yacht Dilphien that we met the previous night. Part of the deal of free berthing at the Yacht Classic Hotel, which includes power and water is that you must dine in the restaurant. As we had experienced the quality of food, service and the price on a previous occasion we did not hesitate returning and using the marina. Tonight we chose to try a couple of different dishes on the menu. On recommendation I tried the chicken curry which was pleasant however it did not compare to the same from our local curry restaurant in Tasmania called Vanidols. Ric tried a chicken and vegetable dish which I am sure did him the world of good. Another wonderful evening had by us all!
