2018-06-20 Cala de Engossaubas, Mallorca to Cuitadella, Menorca, Islas Baleares, Spain

A beautiful morning in Cala Engossaubas
After breakfast we leave the peaceful bay and start our crossing to Menorca
Looking back to the most northern tip of the Mallorcan coastline
Three hours later we approach the south west coast of Menorca which is the smallest of the three major islands of the Balearics
Not far up the west coast is the wonderful old town of Cuitadella
On the starboard side as we enter the long narrow port is the old fort called Torre de San Nicholas
Slowly motoring up the cala gives one plenty of time to admire the lovely houses on either side

Reaching the Club Nautico Office, the port opens up and the wonderful old buildings of the old port appear

It is not long before the Tangaroa is safely moored along the restaurant quay, washed down and looking smart once again!
The fresh air from our journey across from Mallorca gave us an appetite……a couple of steps from the boat is Restaurant El Bribon
We share a fresh looking prawn and vegetable salad
Ric ordered a few stuffed mushrooms to share
After lunch we took Prue and Julian on a tour of the old town
We visit the Esglesia Catedral of Menorca which was one of the only buildings to survive the brutal attack by the Turks in 1558

The main square, Placa d’es Born is complete with an attractive fountain and an Obelisk (to commemorate the attack and the thousands of locals who were taken from the town to become slaves in Constantinople in 1558)
In the impressive square the Gothic style town hall and numerous other Renaissance style elegant buildings can be found
Wonderful views of the harbour can be seen from viewpoints by the square
Refreshing icecreams melting quickly in the very warm temperatures today
Strolling through the old town we pass one of the ancient arches of Ses Voltes

The boys decide to return to the boat and Prue and I checked out a few of the local shops…..and mirrors
We return to the boat walking along the picturesque harbour
……….passing numerous waterside restaurants all set up ready for this evening’s patrons

Looking into the harbour we can see the brown building where we have made a booking for dinner tonight
Restaurant Cas Consòl has a wonderful position overlooking the harbour
We are lucky enough to have a table by the window, which has an amazing view of the harbour

Sunset over the delightful port
Our entrees arrive….Julian ordered the salmon
Ric and I share the mussels as usual
Prue decided on the veal carpaccio
My choice for main course was the Dentex fish which I remember being very nice  in restaurants in Croatia and Turkey
Julian chose the John Dory which he did not enjoy as much as the John Dory available in Australia
Prue chose the clams
Ric decided on the slow cooked lamb shoulder which he thoroughly enjoyed

It was a lovely evening, with good food in a great town
A good vino tinto was ordered
Later after dinner sedatives were brought to the table…….
Returning to our boat we notice yet another yacht had arrived
