2017-09-21 Cala de Portinatx to Abiza Town, Abiza Island A wonderful sight in the distance This morning we say goodbye to our friends Aage and Jytte Departing the bay by motor this morning our Danish friends intend sailing across to Mallorca We look back to the popular holiday town of Portinatx where we anchored overnight, which is situated on the north coast of Ibiza We continue east towards the black and white striped lighthouse, Far des Moscarter Passing our friends we continue south east down the coast towards the main town of Ibiza Continuing down the east coast of Ibiza we see Faro de punta Grossa perched high on a rugged outcrop The ancient Torre de Campanitx is situated on the most eastern point of Ibiza Spectacular massive rugged rock formations seem to rise from the sea Finally we approach the busy tourist town of Ibiza The Dalt Vila with its fortified 12th Century Castle, Cathedral and old town stand prominently over the port Punta de Fora stands at the starboard entrance to the port Prior to arriving we secured a marina berth at Marina Botafoch We were given a berth alongside a pier which was quite private and also convenient to get the bikes off and on the Tangaroa Very few available berths despite the fact it is late in the tourist season We also have a great view of the Dalt Vila from the boat Heading off on our bikes we decide to explore the town for a few hours before dinner The marina bar and cafe look inviting…..perhaps later At the marina entrance the two apartment blocks make a statement with their curved coloured terraces We pass a a great facility by the marina with multi tiered storage for small motor boats With the local marina in the foreground the Dalt Vila stands high on the hill behind port The ferry terminal for the day tripper boats A few large super yachts are in port today The popular promenade along the main pier of Ibiza Rows of smart bars and restaurants line the port Shisha water pipe smoking is popular here too!!! The statue called Estatua Vara de Rey stands in what one would call the centro of the port area Passeig de Vara de Rey (with its eucalyptus trees) is the major walking street in the heart of Ibiza Town Nice dress… No shortage of cafes, bars and restaurants in Abiza After securing the bikes, to get some exercise we decide to head to the top of the Dalt Vila The massive fortified walls of the castle were built later than the castle, in the Renaissance period (14 to 17 Century) The walls of the castle are still in amazing condition considering their age The narrow streets of the old town fortunately are not busy at this time of the day We wind our way up the ancient cobbled streets Finally we near the top of the hill by the massive cathedral The views over the town and the port are spectacular from up here What a magnificent sight over the port from the Dalt Vila The Cathedral of Ibiza The Tangaroa can clearly be seen along the pier in the harbour Time to head back down towards the port In the late afternoon sun the white washed walls and cobbled stone paths looked amazing A popular cafe/bar set up on ancient steps No shortage of retail therapy in Ibiza Collecting our bikes we ride back to the marina A large cruise ship in port today It has been a long day for us so we decide on having a healthy salad for dinner aboard tonight Lovely night views of the well lit up Dalt Vila and Ibiza town Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
