2017-08-21 Cala Binirris, Ibiza Island to Cala de Santa Ponsa, Mallorca Island Larry & Lee on Sea Dreams leave our overnight anchorage and plan to cross to Mallorca today An hour later we also make a move passing Queen Victoria at the entrance to the bay Looking back to our lucky find, Cala Binirris Puerto De San Miguel was our other choice of overnight anchorage however the large hotel at the entrance did not make the bay look inviting We set off north east up the coast passing Cap Bernat Looking back We continue northeast up the coast nearing the top of Abiza A couple of super yachts are moored in Cala Portixol We arrived at Cala Portinatx the most northern bay of Ibiza. The weather for a calm crossing was better this day than the following day so we made the quick decision to go on to Mallorca The absolute northern point of Ibiza is Punta Moscarte, which is a rocky headland with a lighthouse A couple of hours after we left Ibiza heading for Mallorca we caught up with Larry, Lee and their guests on Sea Dreams Sea Dreams’s previous owners were a couple who we knew from Tasmania Rob and Rosemary Peterswald have published a few wonderful books on their Mediterranean sailing experiences During our 53.8 nm crossing we saw several other sailing boats going to and coming from Mallorca ……not to mention other motor boats of all sizes Finally after 5 hours of absolutely calm waters, the island of Mallorca comes into view We approach Mallorca from the south west coast, west of the capital city of Palma Quite a spectacular rugged coastline in the south west of the island We approach the large bay of Ensenada De Santa Ponsa A row of jagged islets look dangerous framing the eastern approach to the bay Despite the few hotels in the east of this large bay, the surroundings are still quite attractive The entrance to the marina The well sheltered marina of Puerto De Santa Ponsa is situated in the east of the bay To the north of the bay are several larger hotels and apartment blocks that flank the semicircular popular sandy beach This floating pontoon is a water activity centre which hires out jet skis etc The very popular sandy beach of Playa De Paguera North west of the large bay is the popular anchorage of Cala Fornells Quite stunning houses overlook the bay in Cala Fornells We decide to go to the next bay west of Santa Ponsa We pass an amazing rock formation on the way Carla Blanca is another popular anchorage in the next bay For a safe anchorage overnight we return to Cala Ponsa Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
