2016-08-02 Marina di Loano, Loano to Portosole Marina, San Remo, Italy Alan from the UK, our pleasant and friendly neighbour for a few days in the Marina di Loano, gives us a wave as we depart Making our departure from Marina di Loano, a very modern and well organised marina on the Italian Riviera about 40 nautical miles from the French border Goodbye to the wonderful marina staff After departing the marina we look back towards the convent on the hill behind Loano The Cathedral in the main piazza of Loano Young sailors are out with their instructors as we leave the town Continuing along the coast we pass the private island of Isolotto Gallinara situated just off the coast before the town of Alassio Capo San Croce with a hillside of very elegant villas facing the south Not long after we approach the picturesque medieval town of Cervo just past Marina di Andora One of Cervo’s main attractions is the fine baroque church of St. John the Baptist perched high up in the town overlooking the water Beach side towns along this coast of the Italian Riviera are very popular especially in summertime The combining of the two towns of Porto Maurizio and Oneglia in 1923 created the community of Imperia Ponente which is proud of it’s very successful olive oil production We drop our anchor and stop for a while in a bay very close to our destination of San Remo On the slopes for several kms north east of the large town of San Remo are numerous hot houses in which flowers are grown for the well known flower market of the area Once we had relaxed and had a swim we continued the short distance to the Portosole Marina in San Remo, where we had booked a berth for the night As per normal in a lot of larger marinas, the marina staff come out to greet you on arrival and lead and assist you to and at your allocated berth The Portosole Marina is quite large and has over 800 berths for vessels of all sizes Once securely tied up in the berth we cleaned and polished the Tangaroa both on the outside and also inside!! Ric decides to cook us a delicious pizza in the barbecue for dinner tonight Sunset over the marina Later in the evening we went for a brisk walk around the San Remo foreshore The fortress of Santa Tecla looked wonderful lit up in the evening Cute boats in the town’s Yacht Club Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
