2016-06-24 Porto Pollo to Cargese, Corsica Departing Porto Pollo ….to continue our journey up the west coast of Corsica Through the heat haze, is the large port of Ajaccio where we spent time visiting last year An unlucky yacht on the rocks in Anse Ste Barbe in the Golfe d’Ajaccio where we stopped for a swim Approaching the popular anchorage by Iles Sanguinaires Little remains of the ancient fort that once stood on this site on Grand Sanguinaire We decide to continue on as the forecast is for winds in the next few days Baie de Liscia with it’s lovely beach Some lovely villas cover the hillside in the north of the bay We pass so many inviting beaches on our travels Arriving in Cargese we choose to anchor out by the port Cargese has Greek origins which once visited the influence can be seen by the church and around the village After the dinghy is secured in the port we get some more exercise walking up the steep slope to the village on the hill The Cargese Port The small village has 2 churches built opposite one another, one being Greek Orthodox and the other Catholic. The locals here in the village all live together in harmony, which is wonderful A panoramic view overlooking the port The Latin Church of the Assumption was the first church built in Cargese in 1825 The interior of the church A couple of the local young men practice boules on the terrace in front of the church We continue our walk around to the 2nd church in the town looking back at the lovely view of the picturesque village We pass the Yuka Bar which looks groovy! Siesta time for some patrons in the Yuka Bar The 2nd church of the small village is the Greek Catholic Church of Saint Spyridon, construction was started in 1852 but was completed many years later The interior of both churches in the small village are quite beautiful Looking directly across to the Latin church of the Assumption The shutters on the pastel coloured houses in the village have the most delightful colours The village with a population of less than 2000 has beautiful quaint lane ways What a lovely spot to enjoy the evening air!! Overlooking the next bay north, Golfe de Peru To top up our supplies we find a supermarket near the main roundabout up in the village The Tangaroa on anchor near the entrance to the port Michele enjoying the view and the walk The hillside of Cargese is covered with large cactus plants With groceries in hand we return to the port Mussels on the menu tonight!!
