This Morning we Hire a Car and with Our New American Sailing Friends, Steven and Pam we Set Off for a Drive Towards Sigri on the West Coast of Lesvos IslandOur First Stop on the Way is the Limona Monastery Just North of Kalloni in the Centre of Lesvos IslandOn Arrival it was Time for Morning Coffees, Juices and MobilesThe Monastery Dates Back to the 16th Century, has Wonderfully Kept Gardens and has been Well Maintained Over the YearsSome Old Customs Have Not Changed in that Time !!Fortunately Pam and I were Allowed into go into the ChurchClusters of Small Dwellings Surround the Monastery GroundsIn the Distance a Glimpse can be Seen of the Large, Almost Enclosed Kallonis SeaContinuing West the Port of Sigri Appears Between the HillsA Zoomed in View of the Small Sigri PortAs we Pass Through Antissa this Mansion Stood Out Amoungst it’s NeighboursPerched on a Hill not Far from Antissa is the Ipsilou MonasteryOnce Again it was Time for Us to Stretch Our LegsThe Monastery from the Road Below Looked Quite SmallOnce Inside the Walls of the Monastery, we Realised it was not as Small as we had ImaginedPam and I Find the Bells !!The Terrain in the Western Area of Lesvos is Much More Barren than Other Parts of the IslandVisiting the Petrified Forest in the Hills Near Sigri was Definitely One of the Main Things on Our AgendaLooking Down over the Valley Below, Where the Many Specimens of Petrified Trees can be Viewed – Walking Down was Definitely Easier than Returning to the Entrance, which is Uphill All the Way !!This is Said to be the Largest Petrified Tree Specimen in the ValleySome Appear to be Larger than Others !!!!Steven and Pam Seem to have Enjoyed the Visit to the Petrified ForestFinally we Reach the Small Town of Sigri on the West Coast of Lesvos IslandThe Tiny Port in Sigri Cluttered with it’s Fleet of Equally Tiny Fishing BoatsMany Small Tavernas and Cafes Line the Narrow Streets in Sigri, However None Appeared to be Open – Must have been Siesta Time!!In the Tiny Town there was an ‘Australia Restaurant’, However we were Too Early for Dinner and Too Late for Lunch !!This Must be the Most Important Building in the TownContinuing on Our Journey in a South Easterly Direction, we Stopped in the Seaside Town of Skala Eressos and had a Most Enjoyable Early Dinner at the Sounatso TavernaMany Tavernas are Conveniently Positioned Looking Out Over the Sea Along the BeachFollowing Our Arrival in the Restaurant, the Fish Drying in the Sun were Removed Very Quickly !!After Enjoying Grilled Aubergine, Fried Squid, Grilled Sardines, Peppers Stuffed with Fetta, Grilled Octopus and Great Potato Chips, there was Very Little Room for Anything Else !!Once Under Way Again we Drove Through More Rugged and Barren Countryside on Our Way Back to MitiliniIt Seems Incredible How Very Steep Ancient Dry Stone Walls were Built to Divide the Land Ownership !!The Last Rays of Sun Fall on the Houses in the Small Village of AgraThe Western Part of the Island Has the Most Amazing LandscapeA Lucky Photo from Our Moving Vehicle of an Interesting Group of Men Outside a Remote Factory on Top of a Hill !!
