30th April 2014 Pendik to Bebek, Bosphorus Strait Another Pleasant Spring Morning in Pendik Marina Our Nearby Neighbour is a Delightful Traditional Wooden River Boat Our First Guests for the Season, John and Diana Arrive Early this Morning Soon after the Arrival of our Friends, we Depart the Pendik Marina As Always the Marina Staff Assist with your Departure John and Diana Surprisingly Look Well Rested, Despite their Long Flight from Australia Fishing Boats are Lined up like Soldiers along the Shore at Pendik Travelling West from Pendik towards the Bosphorus Strait, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia Appear in the Distance The Topkapi Palace was Built between 1459 and 1465 by the Conqueror, Mehmet 11 We Approach the Galata Bridge at the Entrance to the Golden Horn The Galata Tower is a Popular Tourist Site and is the most Recognizable Feature on the Golden Horn Several Bridges Span the Golden Horn which is one of the Largest Natural Harbours in the World Despite the Cool Weather we Enjoyed the Trip up the Golden Horn We Come Out of the Golden Horn and Continue Up the Bosphorus Strait Many Visitors at the Top of the Galata Tower Today The Bosphorus Bridge with Ataturk’s Ship the “Savarona” Moored Nearby Many Ferries Line the Shores at Arnavutkoy In the Bosphorus Strait Continuing Up the Famous Waterway we Pass the Handsome 19th Century Houses in Yenikoy Some of these Waterfront Wooden Homes are Extremely Expensive Pieces of Real Estate Bebek Harbour is one of the Few Places Where one can Drop an Anchor in the Bosphorus Continuing North Finally the Black Sea Comes into View The Village Anadolu Kavagi, which is on the Asian side of the Bosphorus South of Poraz, has Ruins of an Ancient Byzantine Fortress We Return to the Busy Fishing Port at the Entrance to the Black Sea Turkeli Feneri is the most Northern Port of the Bosphorus Strait on the European Side The Port Holds Hundreds of Fishing Vessels of all Shapes and Sizes The Large Fishing Fleet from Turkeli Feneri Supply much of the Fish out of the Black Sea to the Huge Population of Istanbul We Briefly Enter the Poraz Harbour to Show our Friends Where we had Stayed on a Couple of Occasions Last Year Motoring Back Down the Bosphorus, a Large Oil Freighter Passes us Quite Closely To Prevent an Uncomfortable Wash from the Huge Ship we Turn Quickly into it’s Wake Once Again we Pass the Elegant Homes along the Shores at Yenikoy Many Old Grand Residences are beside the Bosphorus Bridge A Brightly Painted Freighter makes it’s Way to the Black Sea Once the Anchor was Dropped for the Night in the Bay at Bebek in the Bosphorus Strait, it was Time for Cocktails before Dinner in the Bosphorus Strait, it was Time for Cocktails Later the Dinghy was Launched and we made our Way Ashore for the Evening A Group of Restaurants Along the Busy Foreshore in Bebek would Certainly Satisfy our Hunger Dinner Tonight at a Local Steak Restaurant by the Water Pendik to Bebek Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
