25th April 2013 Gocek to Kapi Creek
At last we were under way!! Although our departure south from Gocek was quite late, we still had enough daylight to enjoy the familiar scenery of the western side of the spectacular Fethiye Gulf. We never tire of cruising in this beautiful area. While passing many familiar bays and coves, we thought how wonderful it was to be back here again. Choosing to spend our first night out at Kapi Creek, which has always been a favourite of ours, we took a spot at one of the usually full piers. This evening was an exception, as generally there are never any spaces available unless one arrive before 3pm. Our lucky night!! As expected at Kapi Creek, one dines in the lovely outdoor Gobun Restaurant, if you decide to take a mooring here. The evening was cool and quite still and there was not a breath of wind. Once again we savoured the complimentary Mezes to start with, followed by our choice of tasty calamari and shrimps grilled on the open barbeque. Following our dinner we ventured to the Kapi Creek TV room to have a look at the start of a European Cup soccer match between Portugal and a Turkish team. On our arrival in the cove we had noticed a flotilla of yachts lining the northern pier. The enthusiastic group of young people watching their fellow countrymen playing, were actually from the Istanbul Sailing Club. Their club charters yachts several times a year and keen young members join the groups to improve their sailing skills. For us it was a great experience to meet such a lovely group of pleasant, well educated young people. We stayed a short time and left the young sailors to enjoy the match.
