21st July 2013 Agathonisi Island to Pithagorion, Samos Island A 6am Start from Agathonisi this Morning Heading North to Samos Island Another Yacht Departs at the Same Time A Couple of Hours Later, Motoring with Reasonably Calm Early Morning Conditions, We Approach the Town of Pithagorion Situated in the South East of Samos Island Pithagorion Stands on the Old Site of the Ancient City called Samos An Early Morning Ferry Collecting Passengers A Flotilla of Yachts Line the Foreshore of the Pithagorion Port Pithagorion which was Named after the Famous Mathematician Pythagoras, is a Busy Tourist Town However Still Retains It’s Small Town Quaintness We Anchored in the Sheltered Port in Company of Numerous Yachts from Many Nations Like a lot of Small Greek Ports, there are Colourful Fishing Boats, Tavernas, Bars and Hotels all Side by Side Pithagorion is a Popular Town for Turkish Tourists too, as it is Only a Few Miles from the Turkish Coast By the Port is an Interesting Sculpture to Honour the Birth Place of Pythagoras By the Port is a Sheltered Beach which gives the Locals and Tourists a Relief from Hot Summer Temperatures Fishing Boats Line any Available Space Around the Perimeter of the Port Waterside Cafes During the Day Become Bars in the Evening – Prova is a Good Choice The Quaint Back Streets of Pithagorion We Hire a Tiny Car and go for a Drive in the Late Afternoon Driving into the Nearby Hills We Look South East to the Close Turkish Coast Continuing Further North the Deep Vathi Harbour Comes into View Vathi Harbour Returning to Pithagorion and Overlooking Our Sheltered Mooring Back in the Port at the End of the Day, Fishermen Mend Their Nets as They have Done for Years The Italian Restaurant at the End of the Pier Looks Inviting for Dinner Tonight Great Views from the Restaurant Our Amazing and Delicious Aubergine Entree – Not Small and Truly Looked like it Should be Served at the End of the Dinner Incredible Fetta Cheese Parcels !! All Dishes veeery Generous !! Mixed Salad with the Special Chef”s Dressing !! During Dinner we Watched the Smoke Increase from Nearby Fires For Several Hours, a Number of Water Carrying Planes (Ric Says they are Called Flying Boats) Displayed their Technique of Scooping Up Water from the Sea and Flying To and Unloading Water onto the Fires – It Worked!!!
