2019-09-25 Starigrad, Hvar Island to ACI Marina, Split, Croatia Unfortunately this morning we make our departure from delightful Starigrad as our guests are with us only one more night Many of the yachts moored overnight have already departed the port We make our way slowly out of the long narrow bay Heading west we see the barren hills of Brac Island to the north This morning there is no wind and very calm seas We head west towards Solta Island where we intend stopping for lunch Approaching one of our favourite bays called Stracinska This delightful bay on the south eastern coast of Solta is a fabulous anchorage which is great for a swimming stop or overnight stay Lunch is served After lunch and a swim we head around to the north towards Split the main town on this part of the Croatian coast Split which is situated on the mainland of Croatia is the 2nd largest city in the country Before heading into the main marina of Split where we have booked a berth for 2 nights, we head around to Split’s commercial port We arrive at MCI Marine Services where we had telephoned the previous day regarding a mechanical issue with our passerelle It did not take long for the mechanics to have a look at our issue and temporarily secure our passerelle After our 2 nights in Split Marina we will return to MCI to have our passerelle properly fixed While around in the commercial port of Split we spot the Hermitage Caves on Marjan Hill. These 15th Century caves are popular with rock climbers and tourists The caves are surrounded by a beautiful landscape of cliffs, forests and sea By the caves there is also a Jewish cemetery and a quaint old church We head back around to the old town of Split which is well recognised by it’s prominent tower of the Diocletian Palace We have booked a couple of nights at the ACI Marina which is conveniently situated near the old town and ferry port After radioing ACI we enter the marina and are guided to our berth by one of the marina staff Time for a refreshing drink aboard before going to dinner We decide to go to a restaurant very close and in walking distance to the ACI Marina At Skipper Pizzeria we order a large pizza to share. It turned out to be the biggest pizza we had ever seen!! Accompanied by a delightful Croatian red ….. perfect! Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
