The breakfast room at Casa GolianaWe are collected by a guide and a driver this morning to go on a private tour of Mexico CityThe Palacio de Bellas Artes is a prominent cultural center in Mexico CityOne of the tallest skyscrapers in the city is Torre Latinoamericana which has 45 floors and is 204 m to the tipOne of the many attractively tiled buildings in the cityOur driver drops us off with our guide in the large city square called Zocalo or Plaza del ZocaloLarge buildings such as the Old Portal de Mercaderes which is on the western side surround the central plazaThe Mexico City Metropolitan CathedralWe enter the magnificent Mexican Cathedral
On display is a molded caste of the lake (Lago de Texcoco) which in Aztec times was filled in with soil and the ancient city of Tenochtitlan was built. The remainder of the lake was later drained and eventually was totally occupied by Mexico CityAnother display shows the ancient Aztec buildings Remains of the ancient buildings are in the process of being uncoveredPassing through the Jardin Botanico with it’s wonderful display of cacti from all over the world We next visit the National Palace of Mexico City Our next stop is to have some late lunch at the National Museum
The popular anthropology museum showcases artifacts from as far back as the ancient Maya civilization
In the car park by the museum one can purchase a variety of tasty nuts and seedsAfter a long day of sightseeing in Mexico City we return to our hotelFor convenience and as we enjoyed our dinner the previous evening, we cross the street from our accommodation and again dine at the Thai Galanga Restaurant
We chat to a couple of delightful young ladies at the next table
