2018-08-08 Playa de Punta Prima to Marina Amarres Poniente, Mahon, Menorca, Islas Baleares, Spain
This morning we prepare to make our departure from Playa de Punta PrimaAfter a couple of days relaxing and enjoying the bay we decide to return to Mahon and sort out an on going issue with the starting of one of our motorsWe head back north up the coast to MahonBefore going into Mahon we go into Clot de la Mola at the entrance and have a swim and wait until a berth becomes availableBeing a commercial port there are often huge cargo ships heading in and out of the portIn contrast there are many tiny sailing boats to avoid tooAn elegant super yacht is anchored in the harbour todayNumerous motor boats are as usual lined up along the pier of Il Porto
A number of Menorquins are lined up on a floating pontoon ….. most of these are available for hireThere are no cruise ships moored along the pier todayWe pass Isla Pinto on the opposite side from the piers, which in the 1700’s was a British naval base and during that century many ships we constructed thereOn this occasion we have booked a berth along the town pier which is much less expensive than the others we have stayed in on past occasionsAlong the pier is a more convenient position however less private than in a marina
This evening we have made a booking at one of the nice seafood restaurants in townBefore going to dinner we arranged to meet with Stephen and Barbara (berthed beside us at the pier) for a drink at their local barLined up beside the restaurant are the familiar row of Menorquins which we saw on entering the portRestaurant La Minerva where we have booked for dinner tonight, is a floating seafood restaurant situated along the main pierWe have been given a very nice table for twoOur view is of the water and a Menorquin almost identical to ours, berthed in the boat rental pontoon in front of usAfter we are seated and enjoying a pre dinner drink we are presented with a small dish of the house …. delicious deep fried local sardinesNext the freshly steamed mussels arrive at the tablePrior to cooking in salt, the friendly waiter presents us with the seabass fish which we had as ordered
Once cooked our waiter expertly filleted the fishThe perfectly cooked fish was accompanied by a large plate of nice simple vegetablesThe waiters we keen to take photos this eveningWe were talked into trying a couple of desserts this evening ….. a delicious creme caramel…… and an unusual cheese cake … both fabulousAfter a wonderful dinner and a lovely evening we leave the full restaurant and return to the boat
