2018-07-11 Ensa de Sas Hortigas to Puerto Soller, Mallorca, Islas Baleares, Spain
The western coast of Mallorca has very few safe overnight anchorages, however this bay when the conditions are calm is a beautiful place to stayThe bay has wonderful clear turquoise blue water and is a fabulous place to swim……….and read, relax and get some vitamin D
It was a wonderful surprise to find that there was another Tasmanian moored in the same bay overnightThe weather conditions were once again perfect to spend the day relaxing and swimming in Ensas de Sas HortigasOur new acquaintances, who now live in Queensland, invited us aboard for drinks before they departed to continue their tripLater in the afternoon we decide to continue on to Puerto Sòller where we have stayed a couple of times in the pastThis coast of Mallorca which runs in a north easterly direction has the most striking and rugged scenery
Another reasonable anchorage is behind Peninsular de la Foradada which has a conspicuous hole on the huge rock formation at the head of the bay
As the sun lowers in the sky we approach the entrance to Puerto Sòller, which is the only all weather anchorage on this north westerly coast of MallorcaThe caves and colours of the rock formations along this coast are quite outstanding
Finally the lighthouse on the southerly cape of the port comes into viewPuerto Sòller consists of a large sheltered natural harbour which has a marina and also has adequate space for boats on anchorThe northern entrance to Puerto Sòller comprises of an ancient lookout and yet another lighthouseFortunately there was adequate space for us to anchor in the port
