Arenys de Mar with a population of only around 15,500 people depend mostly on fishing and fishing related industries for their economyAt lunch time we leave Puerto Arenys de Mar for our 3 hour journey to Barcelona where we have booked a berth for a few daysAlong the coast by Arenys de Mar the beaches are quite wide and during the summer months the hotels are well patronisedOn our last visit nearly 7 years ago we had an enjoyable few days staying here at Hotel Colon in Caldes d’Estrac which is close to where we had just departed fromWe pass the larger town of Mataro, a popular wine growing area which has a population of about 124,000 people. The town actually dates back to ancient Roman times and recently a 1st Century BC Roman bath house was discovered As we continue along, in the far distance we can see the outline of the tall building of BarcelonaThe old Roman tourist town of El Masnou is just northeast of Barcelona and is famous for growing carnations and also has a strong textile industrySuper yachts moored near BarcelonaThe 3 conspicuous chimneys by Sant Adria de Besos
The huge solar panel in Parc del Forum on the outskirts of BarcelonaLuxury apartment blocks are numerous around the Parc de Forum area close to where the 1992 Olympics were heldThe bullet shaped Agbar Tower come into view with the unfinished Gaudi church in the background, as we approach central BarcelonaAs we continue towards the port looking towards Mount TribidaboPort OlimpicPlaca de Mar the beach in the centre of BarcelonaWe finally head towards the port entranceA row of freighters are moored off the Barcelona Port todayLooking back to the Hotel Arts and the Mapfre Tower, the tallest buildings in Barcelona featuring a very large fish sculpture in the foregroundOne of the very few boats we have seen during our 3 hour trip to Barcelona

Kismet, a 95m luxury motor mega yacht which was built in 2014, is moored in the harbour at the momentThe marina seems to have increased in size since our last visit here nearly 7 years agoAs we pass Kismet to access our berth nearby, at only 16m long we feel dwarfed by the massive mega yachtWe were allocated an amazing position in the very secure marina, also very close to all the action ashore
We were once again very pleased with such a fabulous spot to spend a few days!!
