2016-08-28 Collioure, Languedoc-Roussillon, France to Puerto de Roses, Costa Brava, Spain
It would have been wonderful to stay longer in beautiful Collioure, however we were on a mission to get further towards our final destinationVirtually on the other side of the headland heading west from Collioure are the outskirts of Port VendresAlong this part of the coast there are quite a few signs of the very ancient past
At the entrance to the Port Vendres is the ancient Fort Finali Port Vendres is the last major port of France before the Spanish border
A welcoming gesture from a local fishermanEntering Port Vendres
Having such a natural deep harbour, Port Vendres hosts many cruise ships during the busy tourist seasonWith a long history of fishing, the port has no shortage of fishing boats of all sizesThe Eglise Notre Dame des Anges church sands proudly overlooking the harbourEveryday day tripper boats come and go from Port Vendres
One of the major focal points of Port Vendres is the marble Obelisk which is 30 metres high and dates back to 1780A most unusual lighthouse at the entrance to Port VendresAs we continue along the coast we see some dolphins in Anse de PaulillesWe continue along the coast and pass the port of Banyuls-Sur-MerWe see a small Menorquin!!Puerto-de-Portobou is virtually on the border of France and SpainWe continue along the Spanish coast, south of France which is better known as the Costa BravaThe scenery is quite spectacular along this coast
Another Menorquin!!The stunning port of Cadaques with yet another Menorquin passing by!!As we continue we pass ancient terracing high on the cliffs by the sea
A popular mooring spot close to Puerto de RosesWe near the popular tourist destination of Port de Roses which is a major location to go on jet ski tours, which we often have seen zooming along the coast The Castell de la Trinitat on the hill by the town has been clearly rebuilt recently!! Apparently the result has been quite controversial!!Approaching Roses a very popular tourist destination on the northern coast of the Costa BravaWe drop our anchor by the beach, safely behind a breakwater
