2016-08-20 Vieux Port, Marseille, Provence, France Tangaroa in Marseille We look out towards the entrance of Vieux Port Looking back down our pier at the port This morning we decide to take the hop on hop off tourist bus around Marseille The main stop for the buses was only a short distance from the boat The bus takes us to the head of the harbour ….and past the amazing mirrored shade structure There always seems to be crowds of people around the harbour in Marseille Rows and rows of yachts line the shores of Vieux Port We pass by St Nicholas Fort which is on the opposite side of the entrance to the port We pass the busy Plage des Catalans We continue around to the Endoume area where you see some lovely villas by the sea We approach the Vallon des Auffes which is a traditional fishing village on the other side of the monument La porte de L’orient – Monument aux Armées d’Afrique The tiny port of Vallon des Auffes We pass more elegant villas near the Bompard area The next stop is the Notre Damed de la Garde Basilica which overlooks Marseille As we head back to the port we pass a popular street with many restaurants Arriving back at the port We pass the church, Eglise Saint Ferreol The port has many restaurants specialising in seafood and most serving Bouillabaisse which is a traditional dish of Marseille The bus continues on past the Tangaroa Looking across to St Nicholas Fort The Museum by Fort St Jean We then head toward Le Panier area We pass the Cathédrale de la Major in Le Panier Interesting forms of transport for rent! We arrive back at the port after doing the complete bus circuit which took under 2 hours We decide to have some lunch at a fresh seafood restaurant nearby Fabulous fresh French oysters We share a generous pot of mussels with a picante tomato sauce Finally back to the Tangaroa Ed and Antoine assisted with the service done on the Tangaroa’s motors today while in the port Notre Dame de la Garde with the gold Virgin Mary glowing in the evening light An elegant Australian owned motor yacht is in the harbour tonight We were very fortunate to be invited aboard for a drink in the evening Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
