2016-08-16 St Tropez to Anse de Gau, Cap Benat, Cote d’Azur, France Our anchorage off the small beach in St Tropez Nearby are a number of other vessels on anchor too Early morning over the port as we prepare for our departure Looking back to Port Grimaud and Marines de Cogolin in the head of the Golfe de St Tropez Port Grimaud was developed in the early 70’s over marsh lands A Provincial village was built here with many canals, foot bridges and also an expensive marina The port of St Tropez once again is full of large yachts The Christina O is also moored in the Golfe de St Tropez Goodbye to St Tropez Roche de Rabiou, the ancient citadel above St Tropez A cruise ship arrives early in the morning with a swarm of visitors coming to the town today The sun starts to appear over the picturesque town The lighthouse at Cap Camarat with the Baie de Pampelonne with it’s famous beaches in the distance The rocks off Cap Taillat A popular anchorage, Baie de Briande Heading south west to the Iles d’Hyeres which consist of 4 small islands just off the coast, half way between St Tropez and Toulon We approach Ile du Levant the easternmost island of the group There is a mixture of military and naturalists on Ile du Levant In Port de L’Avis a ship wreck shelters the small port We cross over to the nearby island of Ile de Port Cros The old tower overlooking Port Man Port Man is a cove on the north eastern tip of Ile de Port Cros We drop our anchor here for a while before continuing on to the other port on the tiny island Numerous yachts are enjoying the islands today We approach Port Cros on the north west of the island A fortified chateau is conspicuous on the north side of the small harbour The ancient lookout is popular to visit Port Cros is the only harbour on this small island with the same name There is limited accommodation here in the tiny port which has a regular ferry bring visitors to the island The anchorage in Port Cros looked very busy however we stayed for a short while and then decided to head back to the mainland As we leave looking back to Ile de Port Cros and the smallest island in the group called Ile de Bagaud which is prohibited to anchor around We arrive back on mainland France by Cap Blanc and Cape Benat, south of Le Lavandou We pass Port du Pradet looking for a suitable anchorage for the night Anse de Gau looked very sheltered for our overnight anchorage We have some company arrive for the night Ric busy with the wok preparing a delicious vegetarian spicy sauce for our pasta tonight!!
