2016-08-12 Iles de Lerins, Cannes, France Again we have a lot of company in the very popular anchorage between Ile Ste Marguerite and Ile St Honorat Icecreams and snacks are quite irresistible for many of the sailors moored here today During the day many more boats arrived at the anchorage Later in the afternoon we decided to go ashore on Ile Honorat and take a walk to the old monastery. There is also a restaurant on the island that serves lunch By the tiny port on the northern side of the island is this hexagonal building featuring a statue of the Madonna We pass an ancient archway on our way to the monastery The island is only 400m wide and 1.5 kms long so it did not take us long to get to the monastery on the southern side! We visit the old church by the abbey The beautiful gardens of the Abbey of St Honorat The Monastery of St Honorat dates back to the 4th century There is also another anchorage on the southern side of the island Nearby we also visit the St Pierre Chapel Familiar eucalyptus trees line the road at the Monastery After a visit to the Monastery’s shop we left with a few bottles of the local wine made by the friendly monks On either side of the road are the monastery’s well established vineyards Back to the Tangaroa after a very pleasant visit to the Monastery and Abbey on St Honorat Island Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
