2016-08-07 Nice Marina, Nice to Rade de Villefranche, via Antibes, France
Although our berth in Nice port was central, disguised behind what looked like a mural and building site haudings was a noisy underground tunneling site which worked around the clock 24 hours a dayAs we make our departure looking back to our berth with the large mural and machinery used in the excavation of the tunnelThe rock and dirt excavated from the tunnel was transported by conveyor belts to this large barge nearby in the portThe Tangaroa had some good company while in the port
The Nice Port has an ideal position situated almost close to the centre of the townWe head west along Baie des AngesThe Nice Airport is only a short distance from the cityA number of unusual pyramid shaped apartment blocks can be seen from quite a distance in Baie des AngesThe large modern complex has a marina situated in front of the buildings, which is called Marina des AngesContinuing west in the bay we head for the famous old port of AntibesFort Carre, built in the 1600’s comes into clearer view as we approachBassin de Grande Plaisance houses a number of very large super yachtsThe entrance to Port Vauban, AntibesWe continue just past the marinas to the old town of AntibesA modern sculpture overlooks the sea by the townThe sculpture resembles a Madonna with Child which we have seen in many ports in ItalyApproaching the walled town of Antibes where Picasso spent time and also is where a lot of his works, including ceramics are on display in a museumNext to the town is a small beach which is very popular in today’s heatAntibes is a very ancient old site which was founded by the Greeks in 680 BC. Traces of remains of the iron age have been also discovered in the old townWe see Musashi for the first time in the Med moored off Antibes. The son of our friends from Sweden is actually a chef aboard this luxurious super yachtAfter looking at the weather forecast and seeing it would be slightly uncomfortable to anchor out overnight around Antibes we thought we would return to one of the bays east of NicePassing Nice once againWe make our way to the next bay east of Nice, the sheltered harbour of VillefrancheEntering the large bay one cannot help notice the beautiful villas overlooking the harbour
We join a fleet of vessels of all sizes anchored Rade de Villefranche
