2016-08-07 Nice Marina, Nice to Rade de Villefranche, via Antibes, France Although our berth in Nice port was central, disguised behind what looked like a mural and building site haudings was a noisy underground tunneling site which worked around the clock 24 hours a day As we make our departure looking back to our berth with the large mural and machinery used in the excavation of the tunnel The rock and dirt excavated from the tunnel was transported by conveyor belts to this large barge nearby in the port The Tangaroa had some good company while in the port The Nice Port has an ideal position situated almost close to the centre of the town We head west along Baie des Anges The Nice Airport is only a short distance from the city A number of unusual pyramid shaped apartment blocks can be seen from quite a distance in Baie des Anges The large modern complex has a marina situated in front of the buildings, which is called Marina des Anges Continuing west in the bay we head for the famous old port of Antibes Fort Carre, built in the 1600’s comes into clearer view as we approach Bassin de Grande Plaisance houses a number of very large super yachts The entrance to Port Vauban, Antibes We continue just past the marinas to the old town of Antibes A modern sculpture overlooks the sea by the town The sculpture resembles a Madonna with Child which we have seen in many ports in Italy Approaching the walled town of Antibes where Picasso spent time and also is where a lot of his works, including ceramics are on display in a museum Next to the town is a small beach which is very popular in today’s heat Antibes is a very ancient old site which was founded by the Greeks in 680 BC. Traces of remains of the iron age have been also discovered in the old town We see Musashi for the first time in the Med moored off Antibes. The son of our friends from Sweden is actually a chef aboard this luxurious super yacht After looking at the weather forecast and seeing it would be slightly uncomfortable to anchor out overnight around Antibes we thought we would return to one of the bays east of Nice Passing Nice once again We make our way to the next bay east of Nice, the sheltered harbour of Villefranche Entering the large bay one cannot help notice the beautiful villas overlooking the harbour We join a fleet of vessels of all sizes anchored Rade de Villefranche Ric cooks a fabulous steak for dinner tonight Sunset in Villefranche Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
