2016-08-04 Portosole Marina, San Remo, Italy to Nice Marina, Nice, France Today we plan to leave San Remo and Italy and cross the border to France Goodbye to Portosole Marina in San Remo We pass Santuario della Madonna della Costa high above the town The Grand Hotel has quite a grand position overlooking the sea A short distance down the coast from San Remo, Monastero Delle Carmelitane Scalze can be seen from the water behind the busy beach The Italian town of Ventimiglia just before the French/Italian border We finally pass the border to France from Italy The town of Menton is on the French side of the border The large marina, Menton Vieux Port is situated by the lovely old town with the pastel coloured tall houses Cap Martin, the famous cape with the prominent Cap Martin Hotel. which in it’s heyday was a very exclusive hotel of the French Riviera The tiny Principality of Monaco comes into view once around Cap Martin Monaco is only 2.02 sq kms in size, is the 2nd smallest country in the world (Vatican no. 1) and is the most densely populated country with almost 38,000 people Monaco is well known for it’s Glitzy Casinos, luxury hotels and nightclubs The Principality also hosts the famous Grand Prix motor race which is held once a year The yacht lined harbour of Monaco caters for some of the largest, luxurious super yachts Looking to the old town on the hill where the Prince’s Palace is situated In a short space of time several helicopters landed by the water in the town as we passed Several large super yachts are on anchor in Baie de Beaulieu the next large bay west after Monaco The luxurious Grand Hotel on Cap Ferrat Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
