This morning we set off on our bikes for a tour around San RemoThe railway line which ran along the coast and passed through San Remo was relocated a few years ago. In it’s place a fabulous bike track was developed, which goes along the coast for 24 kms and the final section was opened in early 2014The bike track, believed to be one of the best in Italy, is very popular and we found it took us past some fabulous scenery including wonderful old hotels and busy beaches
The old San Remo railway station has now been converted to a row of shops, including of course a bike shop!!We detour from the bike track, secure our bikes to a pole and take a walk around the centro of San RemoSan Remo was founded in Roman times and today has a population of around 60,000 peopleTourism plays an important part of the economy here in San Remo, as does the olive oil industry and of course the fresh flower industry
Another very old church of San Remo is Santo Stefano in Piazza CassiniOratorio dell’Immacolata ConcezioneThe Chiesa di Santa Maria degli AngeliA statue of Mike Bongiorno who was one of the most famous and loved TV presenters of Italy can be found in San Remo too!!
In the old part of San Remo you can explore the very narrow alleyways as they were in ancient times

Time for a late lunch at Ristorante Mare BluWe decide on our favourite, Mussels with tomato – deliciousRic orders a local carafe of ChiantiBaked fish with potato and tomato perfect for our secondi piattiLight and absolutely delicious!!We pass a wonderful shop ‘Pasticeeria’ on our way back to the bikes…….and a fabulous shop called Miki with some wonderful pieces from the famous Italian glass makers of Murano GlassWe head back to the bike track which runs along the waters edgeRic and I decide to ride past the marina where the Tangaroa is berthed and continue riding further along the bike trackWe ride out as far as the bay we had moored in before our arrival in San RemoThe bike track through San Remo and along the coast was really outstanding with the most wonderful scenery and a safe and even surface to ride on too!!On our return to the marina we pass many popular bathing coves
