2016-08-03 Portosole Marina, San Remo, Italy This morning we set off on our bikes for a tour around San Remo The railway line which ran along the coast and passed through San Remo was relocated a few years ago. In it’s place a fabulous bike track was developed, which goes along the coast for 24 kms and the final section was opened in early 2014 The bike track, believed to be one of the best in Italy, is very popular and we found it took us past some fabulous scenery including wonderful old hotels and busy beaches The old San Remo railway station has now been converted to a row of shops, including of course a bike shop!! We detour from the bike track, secure our bikes to a pole and take a walk around the centro of San Remo San Remo was founded in Roman times and today has a population of around 60,000 people Tourism plays an important part of the economy here in San Remo, as does the olive oil industry and of course the fresh flower industry Another very old church of San Remo is Santo Stefano in Piazza Cassini Oratorio dell’Immacolata Concezione The Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli A statue of Mike Bongiorno who was one of the most famous and loved TV presenters of Italy can be found in San Remo too!!
