2016-07-27 Santa Margherita Harbour to Porto Antico Marina, Genoa, Italy Santa Margherita After a couple of lovely nights in Santa Margherita harbour we depart the wonderful port Once out of the port we head south to Punta di Portofino before going north to Genoa We look back to the Castle, the Convento Frati Cappuccini Church and Villa Durazzo, all of which we visited the day before ……and the beautiful old church Santa Margherita d’ Antiochia situated beside Villa Durazzo As we head towards Punta di Portofino we pass many elegant villas overlooking Golfo Marconi Once again we motor past the beautiful elegant town of Portofino Many super yachts are on anchor in Golfo Marconi off Portofino The lighthouse of Punta di Portofino Looking at the magnificent villas of the town of Portofino from the western side of the narrow point The small cove of San Fruttuoso Camogli was a prosperous little town in the 19th century with a large fleet of trading vessels. Today however the town mainly relies on tourism and fishing As we continue up the coast to Genoa we pass a number of seaside towns Arriving at the large old port of Genoa which is situated at the top of the Gulf of Genoa Finally we find our berth deep in the Genoa harbour We are very pleased with the wonderful position we have in the Porto Antico Marina which is virtually beside the old part of the ancient port of Genoa The old warehouses in the port have been sympathetically renovated with accommodation above the shops, cafes and restaurants which are situated on the ground floor This evening we book a restaurant in the town and set off for the 20 minute walk through the old town to get there A short cut through a tunnel was not on our agenda!! When we arrive at Piazza Corvetto with the statue of Vittorio Emanuele II on a horse, we realise we are close to the restaurant Finally we arrive at ‘Volta la Carta’ Once seated Ric orders a Montepulciano vino rosso An assortment of breads made by the chef arrives promptly An amazing complimentary scallop dish from the chef, arrives for each of us Our first dish of the 5 course seafood degustation menu which we ordered arrives – an amazing carpaccio of seafood with delicious black rice Perfect prawns in an a delicious unusual sauce Superb cuttlefish in a broth Wonderful prawn ravioli Scrumptious Seabass in pastry Another course was a delicious dessert of Tiramasu The restaurant Volta la Carter was named after a song by Fabrizio De Andrè Our friendly, generous and talented hosts this evening Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
