2016-06-28 Calvi to St Florent, Corsica This morning the weather is calm once again The day tripper boats will be finally going out now the mistral wind has abated Heading out of the marina, the old walled town in front of us looks spectacular Continuing north east up the west coast we approach Ile Rousse, a very popular port for tourists and sailors alike We continue north east up the coast and find one of the beautiful white sandy beaches to stop for a few hours As soon as we stop we all head in for a long awaited swim The colour of the water is the most exquisite turquoise all along this beautiful coast Heading towards St Florent we approach Baie de la Mortella The round Genoese Martello tower which was built so strongly that the design was actually copied for towers to be built elsewhere, was eventually curcummed to ruins Once we had another swim in Baie de la Mortella we made our way to the nearby town of St Florent Once anchored in the bay beside the town we take the dinghy ashore This is our 2nd visit to this pretty little town in northern Corsica Ric waits patiently while Michele and have some retail therapy Boules is a popular pastime for the local gents in the town Once again I purchased some hand made jewelry by Yves Alessandroni of Acqua Dolce Bijoux The Citadel of St Florent was built in 1439 and today is used for art exhibitions and the surrounding area for cultural encounters and music festivals Lovely views of the old part of the town from the Citadel area The town square with fountain et al After our stroll around the lovely town we decide to head back to the Tangaroa The light this evening over the moored yachts in the port is quite amazing On such a beautiful still evening it is wonderful to be aboard Looking back at the delightful little port of St Florent Sunset After a few relaxing drinks, the pizza chefs were having a bit of fun trying to make the dough fit the pizza trays!! Note the bottle of wine was used as a rolling pin!! Michele shows us her pizza decoration skills before the pizzas enter the oven!! Cheers!! The pizzas were fabulous!! How nice to sit outside on yet another balmy evening for dinner. Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published. Required fields are marked *Comment * Name * Email * Website Δ
