2016-06-26 Punta de’lOscellucia to Calvi, Corsica Although we had strong winds overnight we were very pleased with our comfortable anchorage overnight It is hard to believe there is snow on the mountains in the distance The stunning ancient walled town of Calvi The wind is already blowing strongly and several yachts have taken moorings in the bay by the town The mistrale wind is expected to strengthen today so we plan enter the Calvi marina for a night or two if we can secure a berth There are plenty of large super yachts sheltering in the port today Last year we spent a night in this wonderful port in late September Fortunately once again we were able to secure a berth after we mentioned we were from Australia!! Michele and I set off for a walk around the old town once we get the boat secured and tidied up In any port there are always a long row of small local fishing boats!! The Citadel which dominates the small town was built in 1268 by the Pisans It is believed the site was occupied and fortified long before the 13th Century A wonderful view over the port and marina of Calvi. It is believed the Phoenicians started using this anchorage by Calvi as early as 500 BC Overlooking the lovely town of Calvi with such a long history Overlooking the boats on the moorings off the beach by Calvi Tangaroa securely tied up in the port High up in the citadel is the Cathedrale St Jean Baptiste Église Sainte-Marie de Calvi Tonight we dine at Restaurant L’isula We order some anchovies as starters …… and a beautifully presented mushroom salad ……and the quail salad Michele chose the rack of lamb as a main course, which she thoroughly enjoyed Ric enjoys the perfectly cooked and tender duck breast My choice is the fish which was a little underdone however still fine My nicely presented vegetables on the side Michelle loved her beautifully presented lemon tart La Grande Dessert!! A wonderful way to sample a few of the incredible choices!! The chocolate dessert was absolutely amazing!! Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
