Departing Porto Pollo….to continue our journey up the west coast of CorsicaThrough the heat haze, is the large port of Ajaccio where we spent time visiting last yearAn unlucky yacht on the rocks in Anse Ste Barbe in the Golfe d’Ajaccio where we stopped for a swimApproaching the popular anchorage by Iles SanguinairesLittle remains of the ancient fort that once stood on this site on Grand SanguinaireWe decide to continue on as the forecast is for winds in the next few daysBaie de Liscia with it’s lovely beachSome lovely villas cover the hillside in the north of the bayWe pass so many inviting beaches on our travelsArriving in Cargese we choose to anchor out by the portCargese has Greek origins which once visited the influence can be seen by the church and around the villageAfter the dinghy is secured in the port we get some more exercise walking up the steep slope to the village on the hillThe Cargese PortThe small village has 2 churches built opposite one another, one being Greek Orthodox and the other Catholic. The locals here in the village all live together in harmony, which is wonderfulA panoramic view overlooking the portThe Latin Church of the Assumption was the first church built in Cargese in 1825The interior of the churchA couple of the local young men practice boules on the terrace in front of the church
We continue our walk around to the 2nd church in the town looking back at the lovely view of the picturesque villageWe pass the Yuka Bar which looks groovy!Siesta time for some patrons in the Yuka BarThe 2nd church of the small village is the Greek Catholic Church of Saint Spyridon, construction was started in 1852 but was completed many years laterThe interior of both churches in the small village are quite beautifulLooking directly across to the Latin church of the AssumptionThe shutters on the pastel coloured houses in the village have the most delightful coloursThe village with a population of less than 2000 has beautiful quaint lane ways What a lovely spot to enjoy the evening air!!Overlooking the next bay north, Golfe de PeruTo top up our supplies we find a supermarket near the main roundabout up in the villageThe Tangaroa on anchor near the entrance to the portMichele enjoying the view and the walk The hillside of Cargese is covered with large cactus plants
With groceries in hand we return to the portMussels on the menu tonight!!
