2016-06-10 Carla Lazarina, Ile Lavezzi, Corsica to Porto Cervo, Sardinia
We had a very comfortable night here in the picturesque Carla lazarinaWe make and early start this morning to head back to mainland SardiniaWe motor south east to Isola Rizzoli one of the La Maddelena Islands and enter the unspoilt Carla Lunga on the western coastThe abstract rock formations here are similar to those seen on all of the islands of this windswept channel between Corsica and Sardinia
A small white sandy beach in the long narrow bay gives us a welcome spot to swim to this morningJohn swims to a small rocky cove nearby and manages to go ashoreOnce underway again we continue south and then motor between Isola Spargi and Isola La MaddelenaWe pass old ruins of dwellings dating back several hundreds of yearsWe make our way back to mainland Sardinia and can see Palau in the distanceWest of Palau is a very affluent area with nice houses tastefully built into the hillsideThe now modern town of Palau, which once was a farming town, is the main port for ferries going to and coming from La MaddalenaBearsy infront of Capo Orso with the bear rock on top of the capePassing through South Channel, south of Isola Caprera we come across one of the super yacht races in the Wally division, out of Porto Cervo
We drop our anchor near the entrance to Porto Cervo, in company with another couple of boats to watch the super yachts racing here along the coastDirectly ashore were a row of beach front mansions of the famous playground of the rich and famous, Porto CervoWe made a booking earlier in the day for a berth here as we had a mechanic arriving the following morning to return and reinstall our repaired water makerEntering this beautiful port with beautiful weather conditions makes all the difference (last year in October it was raining, cold, windy and the port was like a ghost town)The houses surrounding the reasonably sized port have been sympathetically designed to blend into the hillsideEach of the elegant homes have beautifully manicured gardensThe old part of the port in the harbour is called Porto Vecchio and in July and August a long row of massive luxury super yachts line the shore hereWe decide to take a berth in the Porto Cervo Marina as there was more action with many fabulous racing super yachts moored here for the annual super yacht regatta
We had a great position in the port near some of the amazing super yachtsFrom the marina we take a walk around the bay to the old portIn the old port are all the designer label shops however at this stage of the season there were not many customersRic as usual, checks out the Paul & Shark shopAnyone for baby blue mink??There are even exclusive clothing shops for the children hereJohn and Angela manage to find a seat in the Sheraton BarCertainly an elegant place for a drinkLovely homes and holiday houses nestle around the hills of Porto Cervo
The houses and even the church has Flintstone qualitiesThe marina in the port where we are moored looks quite busy today as there are many of the super yachts in the port for the annual Loro Piana Super Yacht Regatta
Beside us, at the end of the pier we had one of the smaller competitors, a 25 m Wally Super Yacht from Porto Palma di MajorcaFor dinner this evening we try the Aqua Lounge at the Porto Cervo MarinaA small complimentary soup to startThe tuna tartare was fresh and deliciousThe squid ink calamari looked very attractiveJohn orders a delicious pasta dishThe fish was perfectly cooked and just the right portion size for a changeThe grilled octopus looked fabulousThe typical Sardinian dessert of Seadas with honey was particularly good hereThe Panna Cotta was also really delicious tooDinner in the Aqua Lounge at Marina Porto Cervo
