2016-06-09 Porto La Maddalena, La Maddalena Island, Sardinia to Cala Lazarina, Ile Lavezzi, Corsica via Bonifacio The pastel coloured houses seem to glow in the early morning light around the port in La Maddalena The boats in the port were tightly packed in last night as there was not an available space to be seen this morning Once our guests returned from their long walk around La Maddalena, we make our departure from the port When we departed Bonifacio a few days ago, our official boat papers were accidentally not returned to us, so as a consequence we decide to go back today to collect them As usual, as soon as we left the port a load of washing was hung out !! We had some good company during our couple of hours of motoring to Bonifacio!!! In the distance we approach Bonifacio The Club Med 2 looked quite stunning with the backdrop of the limestone cliffs of Bonifacio It is our 4th time entering the amazing port!!! Once inside, John took over the controls and Ric lowered the dinghy into the water Ric sets off to the port office to retrieve our precious boat papers Our travel companions also arrive in the port Once Ric returned from the office with our papers, we again leave the port Looking back to the beautiful port with the Rasselas reversing into her berth We again pass the limestone cliffs with the old town perched high above As Ile Lavezzi was close by, we thought if we were lucky to find room in Carla Lazarina, we would drop an anchor, have a swim and perhaps stay the night There were still many people enjoying the lovely sandy white beach in Carla Lazarina We were in luck as one tripper boat had just left for the day We had plenty of room to find a good mooring for us for the night Once settled, it was time to have a late lunch after our unexpected detour back to Bonifacio After spending the rest of the afternoon swimming we thought we would then go for a nice walk ashore Heading inland on one of the well worn paths we pass the most wonderful scenery of acres of wild flowers and massive sculptured rocks Looking back to the Tangaroa through the long lens makes her look like she is sitting in a field of flowers Continuing along the walking path we arrive at Cala di Chiesa which would have been named Church Bay because of the distinctive cross in the huge rock A large group of school age young people and several adults were in the bay. Perhaps the group were on a sailing training holiday Nearby was a well photographed rock The rock sculptures all over the island were just amazing Almost a metre high carpet of compacted seagrass lined the shore in this small cove The small island is covered in pleasant walking tracks which take you from bay to bay We came across so many unusual natural rock sculptures as we walked around the island In one bay we discovered a large landing jetty which is where the many visitors that you see on the beach and walking around, actually get dropped off and later picked up again A pair of seagulls loudly protecting their chicks as we passed by Continuing our walk we come across the cemetery where the captain and his crew were buried from the ill fated ship, the Semillante which struck rocks and sank in the mid 1850’s The island is presently covered in many different kinds of wildflowers Looking west we can see the silhouette of Cap Pertusato on the southern tip of Corsica We were so pleased we had the opportunity to do the walk around most of the island which took us around an hour and a half We still have some company in the bay tonight, which is good Back to the Tangaroa A wonderful sunset tonight over Ile Lavezzi Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
