This morning the wind was quite strong when we left Cagliari to drive down tp Pula where the ancient site of Nora is situatedOur first glimpse of the 17th century watchtower Torre del Coltellazzo that overlooks the Nora ancient siteAs we arrive we join an English speaking tour with a delightful Sardinian young ladyAlthough the weather was not cold, there was a strong wind and a sea mist all over the south west Pula areaNora was first settled by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC and later the site was rebuilt by the Punics and then the RomansThere are quite substantial remains of the ancient baths of the site called Terme al mareA cluster of 4 pillars stand in the centre of a large patrician villaFloor mosaics can still be seen from the surrounding rooms of the villaThe ancient site was exposed to two bays, one on each side of the point which made landing by boat always possibleThe small amphitheatre overlooking the sea was built by the Romans in the 2nd CenturyA single column remains from the former temple of Tanit, a Carthaginian Venus that was once worshipped here at NoraAfter a few hours inspecting the ancient site we return to CagliariOnce back in Cagliari we drive up to the amphitheatre which we missed on our other visits to the townNearby a statue gets a good polishWe pass the Chiesa di San MicheleWe then go down Via AzuniLooking towards the busy Piazza YenneChiesa di SanAnna which was rebuilt after much damage in the WWIIThe staue of King Carlo Felice in Piazza YenneBack on Via Roma, it is time to leave Cagliari and head home to the marinaAfter a few days travelling many kms by car, seeing other parts of Sardinia, we return to Marina di CapitanaWe check back into the Hotel Sighientu, adjacent to the marinaBefore dinner we check on the Tangaroa and see the large boat hoist in place. We knew that she was ready to be launched in the morning as plannedDinner once again at MunrosFresh raw tuna is on the menu tonightWe also try the spicy octopusThen we share one of their delicious pizzasAll enjoyed with a good Sardinian vino rosso
