2015-09-20 Bonifacio Marina Corsica, France to Porto Cala Gavetta, La Maddalena Island, Sardinia, Italy Our neighbours for a couple of days This morning we depart as the wind has died down and the day looks clear Looking up to the fortress as we make our way out of the port Calanque de la Cantena a small narrow bay in the Bonifacio harbour where one can anchor a yacht if lucky enough to get a spot We pass the other bay Calanque d’Arenella which is circular bay near the entrance in the harbour in which anchoring is forbidden Heading out with company through the narrow entrance of the Bonifacio harbour Pointe de Gouvernall The King of Aragon’s Stairway which we successfully accomplished yesterday, can be clearly seen carved into the limestone cliffs of Bonifacio The houses perched so close to the edge make an amazing, yet frightening sight The light house on Capo Pertusatu with a rock formation in the foreground that resembles a ship !! We continue along the narrow southern coast of Corsica We pass some lovely homes which are situated close to a golf course We arrive in a picturesque bay between mainland Corsica and the small island called Ile Piana The water is an amazing turquoise colour in the shallow bay The beach appears to be empty apart from numerous kyaks for hire Later dark clouds started to appear in the distance over mainland Corsica We leave the bay and head towards Ile Cavallo, a small island nearby with the La Maddalena Archipelago in the background The houses on Ile Cavallo have been tastefully built so they blend in with the surroundings We continue on to Porto Massimo which is a sheltered mooring in the north east of La Maddalena Island We continue across to Caprera Island in the east and motor south and then north back to La Maddalena town (passage between the 2 islands is impossible due to a causeway connecting them) Finally the pastel coloured houses of the port of La Maddalena, where hope to get a berth for the night, come into view We enter the main port of La Maddalena Island Numerous other boats have arrived in the port today The prominent monument dedicated to to the well known Italian, Guiseppe Garibaldi is situated just behind our berth Early evening we head out for a stroll around the town and find a restaurant for dinner The local meeting place in the main town square Many of the tourists have left and the town square seems very quiet tonight The main thoroughfare in La Maddalena The boys with their shopping! Nice little bars and cafes in town Trattoria de Bocchetta looked welcoming for dinner tonight I had the fabulous lobster and spaghetti special Ric enjoyed a very tender eye fillet with an unusual strawberry sauce Rod and Kate started with buffalo mozzarella and pancetta Followed by delicious raviolli for Rod Kate enjoyed the beautiful salmon A nice Sardinian red with our meal tonight Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
