2015-09-18 Vieux Port Marina, Ajaccio to Bonifacio Marina, Corsica, France The Queen Victoria Christoffe the captain of a yacht moored beside us The Tangaroa in Ajaccio We leave the Vieux Port Marina to continue south Once we leave Golfe d’Ajaccio we head south east passing numerous bays and also the port of Propriano Punta d’Eccica and it’s low lying islets which one has to take care to avoid Passing a fast moving vessel going in the other direction A catamaran makes it’s way up the coast On the south west coast of Corsica there are some lovely beaches such as Roccapina, which we would have been happy to visit if the wind had not been so strong Fishermen trawling in the very choppy conditions We carefully pass Les Moines which is a group of rocky islets a few miles off the shore Torre di Figari In the distance we see the high limestone cliffs of Bonifacio Kate capturing all the amazing scenery Cap de Feno Ric taking a breather from skippering the boat We approach the hidden entrance to the ancient Bonifacio harbour which is in a calanque (a long narrow opening in the chalk hills) A catermaran heads into the strong breeze after leaving the port The buildings and cemetery clearly visable by the harbour entrance Punte de la Madonetta The cliffs and light tower on the west side of the port entrance The narrow entrance to Bonifacio Once inside, the carved cliffs on either side of the narrow harbour and the ancient city walls are absolutely spectacular Looking back to the narrow entrance to the Bonifacio harbour The Citadel with it’s well preserved fortification walls We radio in and hope a spot is available, as you cannot book a berth in advance in the Bonifacio port unless of course you are a superyacht Fortunately a space is available and with luck we get a prime position in the port Tangaroa in Bonifacio Rod and Kate and the Bonifacio sunset Along the harbour are numerous restaurants and shops on either side of the walkway The place to go if you are a sweet tooth!! La Caravelle was the choice for dinner tonight A stunning restaurant with equally stunning prices Kate had the fish and Rod had some pasta Ric and I ordered the very much overpriced fillet steak After dinner we went for a walk along the foreshore and found Restaurant Les 4 Vents which would have been another good choice for dinner The limestone cliffs in the harbour look like clouds in the evening From the stern of our boat we had a brilliant view of the changing colours of the Fort above Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
