2015-09-17 Calvi to Vieux Port Marina, Ajaccio, Corsica, France We depart the lovely port of Calvi The Citadel is quite impressive from the water Punta la Revellata in the distance Once past the point and heading south west the wind was blowing quite strongly We had the wind on the nose and had a some waves to match We continue south west Looking towards the Gargalu Passage Between Calvi and Pointe Palazzo we had the wind on the nose which made the begininng of the trip a little uncomfortable We planned to get shelter for the night in Port Girolata however the wind was blowing straight into the big bay The rich red colour of Capo Senino, south east of the Golfe of Girolata Marine de Porto was another option for an overnight stay however the wind seemed to also blow straight into the bay A couple of boats looking for shelter in Anse San Pellegrino Approaching Cape Rossu from the north We look back to Cape Rossu and now we have the wind behind us which is ideal for travelling down the coast The beach looks nice in Porto d’Arone however better for us in calm weather! The tower on Punta d’Ormigna We almost stopped at Cargese however having a great tale breeze we decided to continue further down the coast We approach the Iles Sanguinaires off Punta de la Parata The ancient tower on Punta de la Parata Finally after a long trip down the coast from Calvi we arrive in the port of Ajaccio Ajaccio is the capital city of Corsica and also is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte We enter the Vieux Port Marina where we have a berth booked for the night Once secured in a berth the Tangaroa needed a good hosing down after our trip After all chores were done and we all freshened ourselves up, we headed off into town The town has many restaurants however the peak season has passed and the tables are not all full A couple of guys enoying their music We chose to dine at Merendella Citadina after checking TripAdvisor We order a nice French red …and Rose for Rod and Kate Ric and I both have the fabulous veal for dinner Rod chose the veal lasagne which he enjoyed Kate thought she ordered chicken however duck arrived, perhaps lost in translation!! It still was tasty!! Amazing Tiramisu for dessert Before returning to the boat we went for a stroll around the town We arrive back at the marina after dinner and was surprised to see a huge ship had arrived in our absence As we walked back to the Tangaroa we realised the ship was the newly launched ‘Queen Victoria’ Once back at our berth we were thrilled we had front row seats Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
