2015-09-15 Macinaggio to St Florent, Corsica, France This morning we leave Macinaggio to continue our journey down the west coast of Corsica Kate’s little friend is there to say goodbye Overcast conditions as we depart The ancient Genoese tower on one of the islets of Iles Finocchiarola north of Macinaggio Ile de la Giraglia on the northern tip of Corsica Shortly after we pass the tiny village of Tollare Capo Grosso As we head south down the west coast of Cap Corse we approach the bigger town of Centuri Punta Minervio We pass the lovely town of Marinca on the west coast of Cap Corse The asbestos mine just north of the town of Marine d’Albo has been closed since 1965 Marine d’Albo with it’s grey beach and the town of Ogliastro behind Not far south, Nonza has also large beach north of the town, which is also quite grey in colour Holiday villas north of the town of Saint Florent Kate never missing a photo opportunity Although the conditions are cloudy the temperature is still quite humid and warm The port of Saint Florent, our destination becomes clearer Nearby numerous hang gliders dot the horizon The large citadel is quite conspicuous as we enter the port Saint Florent was once a small fishing village and now during the summer months it is a bustling tourist destination The port staff guide us to a mooring for the night We moor along the main quay of the Saint Florent harbour Tangaroa in Saint Florent Nearby are numerous bars and restaurants This is one of the better restaurants in town The main town square Another good restaurant in town Petanque is popular here Time to have dinner We haven’t a long way to go to our restaurant, La Rascasse which is directly behind the boat The boys order a nice bottle of local red We all ordered the beef cheeks on mashed potato which was superb The mixed vegetable dish to accompany the beef was equally as good Fabulous desserts on the menu too !!
