2015-08-21 Anzio to Porto Turistico di Roma, Ostia, Italy
Early morning in AnzioThe water is like a mirror this morning in the bayThere was only one other boat anchored outside by the harbour overnightWe continue north up the coast passing many towns along the Tyrrhenian SeaWe drop our anchor off a secluded beach just before Ostia and within minutes the Guardia di Finanza arrives to tell us we could not anchor thereWe were told that the area is the private property of the President and for several kms nobody could be on or near the beach or coastlineWithout having our swim, we decide to go straight to the marina where we had booked a berthWe radio in and are asked to wait outside with a few other boatsWe enter the large new marina, Porto Turistico Di Roma in OstiaThe massive marina holds over 800 berthsOnce inside, looking to the north in the large marinaLooking southIn the centre opposite the entrance is a beach inside the maria, which was designed to reduce the onshore swells and to be also used by visitorsThe very long building behind the beach contains many shop spaces, however many were vacant, plus a couple of cafes and a few restaurantsThere seemed to be quite a few of the larger sized boats in this marinaWe are allocated berth no 728 with an empty space on both sides of us, which was nice for privacyIn the evening we went ashore for dinner and found a small restaurant very close byWe shared a plate of very tender and fresh fried calamariThe waiter recommended a bottle of ChiantiWe had a nice view over some yachts in the marinaFor our main course we had some grilled fish, which was delicious and expertly portionedRic’s favourite part of the meal !!
